I have had a lot of questions about my hair. How do I keep my curls? Is that my natural color? How is your hair so shiny? What hair products do you use? Those are the most common ones I get. I love compliments on my hair but most of the time I hate my hair. Ever since a child I always got the Ginger jokes. Anyone that has Red/Auburn hair knows it gets old quick and our hair texture is way different than other hair colors. It requires some major TLC to not look like a Frizzy Beast on a daily. Don't get me started on humidity because it is a nightmare to my hair. The older I get and the more tips I learn to maintain the beast the more I learn to embrace my locks. The most important thing that I have learned is that good hair doesn't start with the hair. It starts with your heath. When I was pregnant I realized that my hair was thick and grew so much better. I knew it was because of all the extra vitamins I was adding to my diet. The Biotin in my Pre Natal vitamins was the vitamin that was helping my hair so much. The next trip to the grocery store I grabbed myself a bottle of Biotin and I have been taking it frequently ever since. It helps keep my hair strong, thick and healthy. If you usually take a Women's Vitamin there is Biotin in the ingredients. Biotin is not only good for hair but for your nails and skin too. Seriously something worth looking into if you are looking to make your hair thicker and stronger. It literally gave my hair it's life back. It can normally be found in your local grocery store in the medicine/vitamin section. Amazon also sells a good variety of brands too. Another product that I just love to share with everyone is Coconut Oil. It is Heaven in a jar. An hour or so before I take my shower or wash my hair I lather my hair in Coconut Oil and wrap my hair up in a tight bun and let it sit for at least 30 minutes or so. Once I get in t
he shower I rinse it with hot water but not completely rinsing it all out. Keeping a little on the ends of my hair keeps it from drying out when I add heat to my hair. I do this hair mask at least once a week to keep the moisture in my hair. Use the oil sparingly because you don't want to be left with greasy hair. I always use the extra virgin organic Coconut Oil because it has a wonderful smell. If it isn't Organic you aren't going to get that strong of a coconut smell but still the same benefits. This product can also be consumed for other health benefits as well. I have touched on that subject in another Blog post. If interested in the other benefits of Coconut Oil you should definitely check it out. Now to the styling part of my hair. I Believe that both my heat protectant and flat iron/curling iron are the ones that should get the credit. They do all the work. My heat protectant is my absolute favorite and not very expensive either. I just simply spray it all over my hair, let it dry a bit and style my hair. This product not only protects my hair but it gives it the shine and helps hold my style of the day in place without weighing my hair down. I learned that a lot of products that I have tried in the past have weighed my hair down so when I go to curl it my curls go flat or if I straighten my hair I lose my volume very quickly. But not with this. It keep my hair feeling light and clean. The smell is also amazing. I hate that burnt smell we all sometimes get when we put heat to our hair but this stuff k
eeps your hair smelling amazing and leaves your hair looking flawless. Now about the Hair Tools I use. First of all my hair natural without any styling is very frizzy, wavy with extra wave underneath and my hair knots up very easily. The longer my hair gets the more knots I fight. But when I do style my hair I always section it off and either curl or straighten medium pieces one at a time starting from the root and working my way down. I have learned by starting my curls at the top by the roots stays longer because then the weigh of the curl doesn't make the curl as loose as fast as starting from the bottom. I also always make sure to cool my hair before brushing or loosening my curls. It really does help hold the style. The Hair tools I am currently using are both CHI brand. I got them for
Christmas last year and have been hooked ever since. Even though they cost a little more I think it is well worth that extra dollar especially if you will be using it often. My tools are travel size because we travel often and I take them everywhere I go. You can buy these at your local Ulta or Beauty Salon. Ulta normally has them or similar CHI Products on sale. You just have to keep your eye out on their Sales. That's about it. Nothing too fancy or expensive just a naturally Auburn haired girl learning to enjoy her head of hair like the next person before the gray hair decides to make its appearance. Until then learn to love your own hair and try new things that work for you. The more natural chemical free you can keep your hair the healthier, thicker, shinier, and fuller it will be. I have found some great prices on all of these products. They are all linked on this page. Simply click the photos. I hope you all enjoyed my post and would love to hear your positive input and feedback. Feel free to shoot me an email anytime. Thanks again for all the hair compliments. I look forward to posting more of these kinds of Blogs in the near future. Happy weekend!!
