One of the very first drinks that my husband made me when we were dating was a Mojito. He has always enjoyed making specialty drinks and I've always enjoyed being his Taste Tester. Out of all his tasty drinks, the Mojito would still be one of my favorites. He even makes a great version for the kiddos. Sometimes he adds Strawberries and it's like a refreshing Strawberry Mint Limeade. Yum! So here is our take on the Mojito. Enjoy!
What you need:
Fresh Mint or Extract
White Rum (1 to 2 Shots)
Simple Syrup (1 part Sugar, 1 part Water)
Cooking Spoon or Muddle
Small Fancy Cocktail Glass
Ice
Sparkling Water
Lime cut in half (half for the drink and half for Garnish)
Optional Ingredients:
Lime juice
Mint extract
Strawberries
Flavored Sparkling Water
*This recipe makes a drink for one.
How to make:
Pick a fancy glass of your choice and put some Mint Leaves in the Glass with a few drops of Simple Syrup just until the leaves are moist. Using the Spoon crush the leaves into the syrup until you have extracted the Mint from the leaves. ( You will start to smell the fragrance of the Mint when you do this. )
* If you are using Mint Extract omit the 1st Step.
Next, Add Rum, a couple teaspoons of Simple Syrup and the juice of one half of the Lime. For a more citrus taste add the juice of the whole Lime. Give it a good stir. ( the handle of the spoon seems to work best for the stirring.)
Then, Fill the Glass with Ice, and top off with the Sparkling Water, and one more stir.
Last, Garnish your drink with a Sprig or two of Mint and a wedge of Lime. Enjoy!!
*If you want to add Strawberries make sure to cut them up nicely and crush them with the leaves or use any kind of Flavored Sparkling water.
